Thank you for exploring my corner of the digital world!
I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner licensed in California. I'm thrilled to introduce myself and share my journey and passion for psychiatric care. I'm here to tell you how this journey has shaped my approach to psychiatric care, my key strengths, and the experiences that have prepared me to make a meaningful difference in the field. It all began with a deep-seated love for psychology and an unwavering desire to assist those facing mental health challenges.
My path into mental health began at Bates College, where I embarked on a quest to understand the holistic aspects of human psychology. Combining my dual passions in psychology and religious studies, I investigated the healing power of diverse practices and the impact of animal-assisted interventions on those struggling with depression and anxiety. This educational journey provided me with an integrative framework that bridges psychology, culture, religion, and philosophy, allowing me to understand and promote an individual's holistic well-being.
My passion for psychiatric nursing began with a Master of Science in Nursing at the prestigious Johns Hopkins School of Nursing and Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, where I honed my skills in inpatient care for adult individuals facing complex challenges such as acute mania, psychosis, and treatment-resistant depression. Continuing to build on that foundation, I expanded my repertoire at Sheppard Pratt-Towson, Maryland, working with children and adolescents on their Crisis Stabilization Unit.
Drawn back to the familiar sunshine of Southern California, I dove deeper into my psychiatric nursing journey by pursuing a post-master's Psychiatric Mental Health Practitioner certificate from Regis College. This enriched my experience across diverse clinic settings, client populations, and diagnostic spectrums while sharpening my expertise in aiding children, adolescents, and young adults to navigate school accommodations like IEPs and 504s.
Throughout my career, I've demonstrably implemented, assessed, and referred cutting-edge therapies like TMS, ECT, and Ketamine, effectively managing a spectrum of disorders from eating disorders and psychosis to mood and personality disorders. My collaborative spirit and communication skills ensure seamless healthcare teams and well-coordinated care plans.
I'm not just about the clinical side of things. While I'm passionate about my work and clients, there's a whole other side of me that thrives on sunshine, furry companionship, and the joy of giving back. Let me give you a snapshot:
**Trading one court for another** Once a collegiate tennis player specializing in hitting aces and volleys, I have traded my strings for a paddle. My latest obsession, like many is PICKLEBALL! This fast-paced, downsized version of tennis is infectious fun. The thrill of competition and the camaraderie of fellow players keep me coming back for more.
**Skiing Bliss** If you can't find me on the court, you'll find me carving turns down majestic snow-glistening slopes. Since I could walk, I had skis strapped to my feet, it's no wonder I love the crisp air, breathtaking snowcapped peaks, and feeling of pure exhilaration gliding down the mountain.
**Hiking Adventures with Stryder** My trusty Australian Shephard Stryder, is my constant companion on outdoor adventures. Whether it's traversing hidden trails of strolls down the beach, his boundless energy and wiggle butt are the best antidote to stress.
When the pace slows down, I curl up with a good book, diving into fictional worlds or exploring thought-provoking non-fiction. Reading is my escape, my fuel for imagination, and a constant source of learning and growth.
I'm also passionate about giving back to the community. My involvement in a therapy dog organization lets me witness the transformative power of furry companions firsthand. Bringing comfort and smiles to patients at Choc Children's Ronald McDonald House, retirement homes, and memory care facilities is undeniably rewarding. Seeing the positive impact on people's mental well-being fills me with purpose and reinforces my belief in the power of kindness and connection.
As a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, I understand that it's not just about having the right qualifications, but also about exhibiting genuine care and dedication in every interaction with patients. I believe in a compassionate and patient-centered approach, a strong commitment to evidence-based practice, and the ability to work effectively with diverse teams. I also believe in empowering and educating my clients as a way to become active participants in their own mental healthcare. I strive to incorporate these qualities into my daily practice to provide exceptional care. My belief in holistic client care involves integrating the mind, body, and spirit, in alignment with your personal values.
So, I invite you to explore my website to learn more about my background, training, services, and how I can serve you, a family member, or a friend. Thank you for joining me on this journey towards better mental health and well-being.
